Proposals for building a solar energy farm north of Glasgow could see the creation of 50 jobs during its six-month construction period.

Derwent London Green Energy Ltd are behind the development which will be capable of supplying over six thousand homes with renewable power.

The site lies within the Glasgow City Council boundary, close to the junction of Blackhill Road and Balmore Road, near Milton and Summerston.

A spokesman for Derwent London Green Energy Ltd. said: “Subject to securing consent, we are looking forward to developing this exciting project and contributing towards increasing Scotland’s renewable energy output.”

Prior to formally applying for planning permission in August, the developers are keen to hear the views of local communities, gathering opinions through a temporary website that will remain live until July 30.

The patch is currently farmland and the proposed changes would allow for the site to continue being used for grazing, with the panels only covering a third of the total area to prevent shade interfering with their performance.

Since the fields form part of the city’s greenbelt, care has been taken to ensure that the solar farm would be well-screened and largely obscured from surrounding viewpoints.

The development would contribute towards multiple sustainability targets at local and national levels, including the Scottish Government’s goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2045, and would tie in with the Glasgow Climate Emergency Implementation Plan.
