A MAN threatened to kill his sister after a conversation with her turned sour.

Jonathan McGuire invited his relative to his Dennistoun home for a chat but began to act in a threatening and abusive manner towards her.

The 45-year-old appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court to be sentenced following the incident on May 19 this year.

Prosecutor Jennifer Gilmour said: “His sister arrived at 10.30am and spoke with the accused. He began to shout and acted aggressively towards her. He shouted, ‘I’m going to kill you’.

“The accused proceeded to throw something. His sister left the property due to his behaviour. She then contacted the accused’s partner and explained the circumstances.

“His sister could hear banging and smashing from the house. The accused then came out the front and asked her to come back inside. She refused.”

McGuire’s partner arrived at the home at 12pm. She was told by him “you are going to die too, f**k off”.

Cops were contacted. McGuire then proceeded to go outside and throw a garden bench into the ground. When officers arrived, they noted the TV to be smashed too.

The court heard that McGuire was arrested and conveyed to Govan police office.

His defence solicitor said: “It was his own house and property he damaged. He accepts alcohol was involved and that he had far too much.

“He has been attending Alcoholics Anonymous for the past eight weeks. He is embarrassed and ashamed about what happened.

“He lost his previous job just a week before the incident and was having financial difficulties. He was feeling anxious at the time.”

Sheriff Barry Divers told McGuire: “I will defer sentence on you for six months – that’s for you to show you can be of good behaviour.”
