Airline Jet2 has added a brand new holiday route for Glasgow Airport passengers wishing to travel to Bulgaria.

Customers will be able to catch a direct route to the Eastern European country from Glasgow Airport from the end of the month.

The new route comes as travellers search for a holiday destination on the coronavirus travel 'green list'.

Bulgaria was added to the list yesterday, which means that travellers are not required to isolate upon return regardless of their vaccination status.

Traditional holiday destinations such as Ibiza, Majorca and Menorca were all added to the 'amber list' yesterday, meaning that travellers are facing quarantine upon reentry to the UK from Monday.

The company say that there has been a big demand from holidaymakers looking for green list destinations.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays said: “If customers have been fully vaccinated, yesterday’s announcement changes nothing whatsoever. These customers (and children travelling with them who are under 18) can continue to enjoy, or look forward to enjoying, quarantine-free flights and holidays from Glasgow Airport to any destination on the Green or Amber List this summer.

"From the demand we are seeing this is most certainly the case, with local holidaymakers looking to enjoy the benefits of the successful vaccination programme by getting away to the sunshine.

“We know what huge demand there is for Green List destinations, so we have made an immediate decision to add a new destination from Glasgow Airport to Bourgas this summer. On top of that, we have a huge choice of quarantine-free destinations on sale this summer and these are proving to be extremely popular with local holidaymakers.”

The new summer route will run every Friday from July 30 until August 27.
