HAVE you ever been late for work because you were helping to catch an escaped wallaby?

That's the situation radio presenter Gary Muircroft, otherwise known as Crofty, found himself in this morning.

On his commute to work to present Go Radio's Go Breakfast show with wrestler, Grado, Crofty was waylaid by an escaped wallaby hopping around the streets of Carluke. It is understood to be from the Clyde Valley Family Park.

He tweeted: "Late for the Go Radio breakfast show with @gradowrestling this morning trying to rescue this wee guy…… #TheCarlukeWallaby! Hope the guy at @policescotland managed to get someone out there!"

His fellow presenter, Grado, was unamused by his antics. He said: "The bigger story was that he left me in here flapping at the thought of having to run this radio show myself, he still hasn’t shown me how to use the buttons!"

Grant Bell from the park revealed the wallaby has not yet returned but it is harmless, but members of the public have been warned not to approach the creature.

He said: "They're quite elusive creatures and can disappear into the undergrowth. They're harmless, they are about the size of a small dog. If anyone can close their garden gates behind it and call us, we can come up with the rescue net."

Police Scotland were called to assist. A spokeswoman said: “Around 6.30am on Friday, July 16, officers were called after a report of a wallaby seen on Braidwood Road in Carluke. Officers are liaising with the local farm park who have confirmed that it is missing from there.”
