GLASGOW CENTRAL train services between Ayr have been disrupted this afternoon as emergency services attend an "incident" in Troon.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that they are currently in attendance at the scene following reports of a "building fire."

Network Rail posted a photograph of the blaze on Twitter.

In a statement, they said: "You can see the scale of the blaze @fire_scot are dealing with at Troon.

"Our rail Incident Officer remains on site. Please check with @ScotRail if you're due to travel on this route for the latest advice."

In a statement on Twitter, a ScotRail spokesperson said: "Emergency services are dealing with an incident in the Troon area.

"Consequently, trains through the station will be cancelled, delayed, or revised.

"We'll update you once we have more information."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "We were alerted at 12.40pm on Saturday, July 17 to reports of a building fire on Barassie Street, Troon. 

"Operational control mobilised five appliances and an aerial to the scene.

"Crews remain in attendance as they work to extinguish the fire. There are no reported casualties at this time."

Alternative routes: 

  • Glasgow Central - Ardrossan Harbour & Largs services for stations to Kilwinning.
  • Glasgow Central - Gourock & Weymss Bay for Paisley Gilmour Street.

ScotRail confirmed that both lines through Troon will remain closed for safety reasons and will remain so until at least the end of Service on Sunday, July 18.
