A MUM sent a 12-year-old schoolgirl threatening and abusive messages because her own child was being bullied.
Jody Devine, 34, communicated with the child through Facebook on January 23 last year, whilst she was in school.
She appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court after previously pleading guilty to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by sending threats of violence and offensive comments to the youngster.
The procurator fiscal depute said: “At around 9am, the girl was at school in Glasgow when she received a series of messages through Facebook Messenger, sent from the accused’s Facebook account.
“The messages entailed threats of violence towards the girl’s father. The messages from the accused stated she would ‘punch him about’. The accused referred to him as a ‘r****d’.
“The girl spoke to one of her teachers and showed them the messages.”
Police were contacted. During an interview on January 31, Devine confirmed that the Facebook account belonged to her.
She admitted to cops that “she lost it a bit”.
Devine, of North Glasgow, added that she was disgusted by sending messages like that to a child, and she was cautioned and charged.
Her defence solicitor told the court that his client’s own daughter was being bullied.
He added: “Ms Devine made attempts to stop the bullying by attending at the school, however, the bullying didn’t stop.”
Sheriff Paul Brown deferred sentencing on her in order for a criminal justice and social work report to be produced.
He told Devine: “I would like more information about your background before this case is dealt with.”
She will return to court next month.
