THE heatwave has had us craving ice cream to keep cool so we asked our readers what their favourite spots in Glasgow were.

We all have our favourite spots for the sweet treat from new dessert shops springing up across the city to Glasgow institutions.

Here is our definitive list of city ice cream shops, as voted for by you, our readers.

1. University Cafe, 83-87 Byres Road, Glasgow, G11 5HN

By far the most popular ice cream parlour with our readers, University Cafe is a city stalwart. They have been in the spot since 1918 and the eatery has passed through four generations.

People love their Biscoff flavoured ice cream and they make their flavours on the premises every day.

2. Big Licks, 47 Finnieston Street, Glasgow, G3 8JU

This place is so popular it has two branches. They have dozens of flavours and always have new dessert ideas on the go. And it's not just ice cream - they are sorbet on the go for our vegan friends.

3. Jaconelli's, 570 Maryhill Road, G20 7EE

Another firm reader's favourite, the Maryhill institution churns their ice cream on site every day so you can be rest assured what you are getting is fresh, homemade gelato.

4. Loop & Scoop, 665 Great Western Rd, Glasgow, G12 8RE

It prides itself on being the first churro and ice cream parlour in the UK and its popularity has seen another branch in Bearsden. Rumour has it they have their eyes on a South Side location too.

5. Coia's Cafe, 473-477 Duke St, Glasgow G31 1RD

This time we're in the East End and Coia's was another strong favourite among Glasgow Times readers. It's known for elaborate desserts and traditional Italian gelato.

6. Valentini's, 190 Fenwick Rd, Giffnock, Glasgow G46 6UE

Another common theme from our readers was this Giffnock favourite and while it's not strictly in Glasgow, we've allowed it because their ice cream looks delicious and boasts flavours such as white Twix.

8. Deesserts, 287 Sauchiehall St, Glasgow G2 3HQ

If you can put ice cream on it, you can get it here. Boasting dozens of flavours; waffles and crepes, the dessert parlour is a city centre staple.
