AFTER three long years, Glasgow's legendary Campus nightclub is almost ready to reopen.

Management are squaring up the rotas and bar staff are fishing out their old aprons.

The original team are ready to reunite with Glasgow's nightlife once again.

Natalie Hunter, one of the managers at the Sauchiehall Street student hall, said: "We're so excited.

"We all worked a the old Campus and we call came from there. Although some of the bar staff have obviously moved on, a few of us still remain with management too.

“It’ll be amazing to have the original team back together with familiar faces. I bet as soon as we get back in it won’t feel like any time has passed at all.”

Following a major fire at the Glasgow School of Art in 2018, the bar and nightclub at 332 Sauchiehall Street had to close its doors.

After a year of construction, the venue will be ready to reopen next week on the same street at number 528.

"It's a cracker of a spot. We didn't move very far, which we're glad about", said John Morton, the General Manager.

"It still feels like an original Campus. I think the big anticipation will be ‘oh what is it like’. But we’ve stuck to the vibe and what the brand offers.

“We’re excited to welcome new customers too but I know we will see a few familiar faces from the old Campus."

The new venue - spread across two floors - has enough space to fit 800 partygoers, Covid regulations permitting.

It's fitted out with booths, TVs, US-styled decor, disco lights and two long bars on each floor.

John added: “There’s a few small changes to the new Campus – I think the lower ceilings will be better for music. Number 332 had much higher ceilings so it was a bit harder to fill. I think this venue will fill much easier and quicker."

For the first time, Campus will boast a huge outdoor seating area, kitted out with benches where Sunday barbequeues will be held every week.

John said: "We’ve never had an outdoor seating area before and we’ve hit the jackpot with how big this one along Sauchiehall Street is. It’s a complete sun trap.”

And regulars can be reassured that Campus cocktails, burgers and pizzas will return.

"I think we've got the biggest pizza oven in Glasgow now", laughed John.

Bosses announced in February last year to inform fans that the much-loved nightspot would be back after they secured the new premises.

When a new Campus sign was erected at the new spot earlier this month, Glaswegians took to social media to share the delight.

John said: "The feedback we have had on social media has been amazing. People are so excited to see us open again.

"There is definitely so many memories which is the nice thing of doing a relaunch because people want to come back – half of the battle is already won."

Although the day of reopening is not yet confirmed, customers can expect updates on Campus' Facebook page.
