MORE than 130 new homes could be built as part of a major housing development in Glasgow’s Royston.

Planning permission has been sought to use land at Darnick Street, off of Royston Road, as the site for the new builds.

The 3.82 hectares site is brownfield in nature and is currently vacant. It’s covered by semi-mature trees and thick overgrowth, with informal pathways throughout.

Glasgow-based Swan Group hope to erect a total of 136 new homes for “mid-market rent”, as well as roads, parking spaces and landscaping.

Their proposed development includes a mix of 86 two-bed and three-bed terrace and semi-detached house types, as well as 50 two-bed flats in a four-storey building All houses will have private gardens, and communal garden areas will be provided for the residents of the flats.

Plans for shared amenity space, communal garden areas and an equipped child’s play area are also mentioned in the application.

A total of 130 parking spaces, including electric vehicle charging points, will be available for residents and their visitors. Cycling parking will also be included.

Planning permission was previously granted in November 2019 at the site for the erection of 100 homes.

The current application, whilst a new proposal, remains a residential development and means no further requirement for the submission of a community consultation event is needed.

A previous public consultation event was held in March 2018.

Glasgow City Council will make the decision to grant or refuse the plans in due course.
