RESIDENTS were evacuated from their homes in the early hours of this morning after ruthless firebugs torched a garage.

The maniacs struck in Airdrie's Hillrigg Avenue at around 5am today.

Locals fled their homes on the instruction of the fire brigade, which put out the blaze earlier today.

Police described the suspects as both being of slim build, about five feet and nine inches tall, one wearing high visibility clothing and the other dark clothing.

Detective Constable Katy Goldie, of Coatbridge CID, said: “Fortunately no one was injured but this was a deliberate act that could have caused harm.

“We are asking anyone who saw anything suspicious around the time of the incident to get in touch, including anyone who may have been driving in the area and has dash-cam, or anyone with private CCTV that could help with our investigation.
