A CREEP left a woman visibly upset after he sexually assaulted her in the street in broad daylight.

Neil Paul, 25, approached a woman who was standing on Argyle Street in Glasgow city centre last month.

He grabbed her bum before apologising to her.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, prosecutor Jennifer Gilmour explained that in the moments leading up to the assault, Paul was acting suspiciously outside an office building.

She said: “At around 9.55am on June 11, staff members working at the Optima building on Robertson Street observed the accused standing outside staring at another worker.

“An employee approached him and asked if he could help him. The accused stated he was waiting on someone.”

Paul, who was listed in the court papers as having no fixed address, was then asked to move away by the staff member, and he did so.

Glasgow Times:

Ms Gilmour added: “As he was walking away, the complainer was with her bike standing near the Radisson Blu hotel.

“The accused approached her and grabbed her buttock area for a couple of seconds. She appeared shocked and upset by this.

“The accused was still beside her and said sorry. He then walked away.”

Paul’s victim reported the incident to hotel staff and said that it had scared her.

Police were contacted and traced Paul.

His defence solicitor said: “He apologised almost instantly. He shouldn’t have done it and he realises that.

“He realises that his behaviour was not appropriate. He regrets it very much so. He’s been in custody for 45 days, which is equivalent to a 90-day sentence.”

Sheriff Allan Findlay sentenced Paul to 88 days in prison, which meant he was released on Monday.

The sheriff told him: “This is unacceptable behaviour. You’ve done your time but carry on like this and you’re going to get serious time.”
