A SIGNAL fault has sparked commuting chaos after overhead cables were struck by lightning near Glasgow Central.

Services on the Glasgow Central to Barrhead and Kilmarnock lines have been affected and anyone travelling today should expect delays and cancellations.

Network Rail confirmed that engineers are working on the fault but travellers were urged to keep an eye on ScotRail's Twitter.

Stagecoach will now accept train tickets on the following services:

  • 60: Ayr - Maybole - Girvan - Stranraer
  • 358: Ayr - Maybole - Girvan - Stranraer
  • 360: Ayr - Girvan - Stranraer
  • X77: Glasgow - Kilmarnock - Ayr
  • X76: Glasgow Central - Kilmarnock

Meanwhile, signal failures also affected trains between Dalmuir and Airdrie this morning. Engineers have now fixed the issue, but delays are still expected.
