A MAN who threw something onto the M8 motorway as cops were about to search him was later found to be in possession of a machete.
Arbaz Ahmed launched the unknown item after police officers stopped him on Newton Street, near Charing Cross, on October 1 last year.
The 20-year-old was told to pull over by cops at around 1.20pm.
He appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court after previously pleading guilty to obstructing officers in the execution of their powers and being in possession of an offensive weapon.
Prosecutor Jennifer Gilmour said: “Officers in an unmarked vehicle activated their blue lights and siren signalling for the driver to pull over, which he did.

“Police identified themselves and informed the accused, who was the driver, and two other males, that they were being detained for a search.
“Officers asked the accused to step out of the vehicle to search him. As he exited, he turned his right side away from the police. He then threw a golf ball sized clear item from his right hand across the roadway and onto the M8 motorway below which was busy with traffic.”
Ahmed was placed under arrest at this point, whilst cops carried out a search of the vehicle he was driving.
A black-handled machete was recovered, and Ahmed stated, “it’s nothing to do with them, it’s my car”.
He was also found to be driving without a valid insurance policy.
Ahmed, of the city’s Ruchill, was described as having an “attitude problem”.
Sheriff Patricia Pryce said: “He thinks he’s above the law.”

His defence solicitor explained that Ahmed has since gained employment.
He added: “He is using his time more constructively. No matters have arisen since then. He knows that if this conduct continues, he’s going to find himself in a young offender’s institution.”
The sheriff told Ahmed: “I’m going to defer matters to the youth court. All sentencing options remain open.
“You need to think carefully about your attitude to this matter when speaking to the social workers because that will impact how I decide to sentence you.”
