There’s a colourful new addition to Argyle Street. Derby Lane, a compact bar and restaurant, has been taking shape over the past few months. It officially launched last this week.

The interior is a creative flight of fancy – neon lights, plush upholstered seats, patterned wallpaper contrasting with bare brick walls and flashes of floral motifs. They are here to make an impression.

You’ll find a New York influenced all-day brunch menu with dishes including lobster roll or flat iron steak and eggs. The evening menu has a seafood focus – “it goes from the sea to our kitchen in just two hours thanks to our wonderful sustainable suppliers”.

The cocktail list is “a fun way of wrapping up very serious drinks” says mixologist Adam Parsons. “It fits in with the décor, there’s a lot of flowers, over the top garnishes, but the drinks are very well made and we have bespoke homemade ingredients. I’ve purposely gone out to find Scottish produce that we can feature in the drinks that will be put together by people who are passionate about what they do.”

A highlight of what is available behind the bar is their Bloody Mary, Adam says. “It’s very different from a lot of others in the west end. Instead of just being the sort of dry spice that you get in a lot of them, I’ve created a spice mix inspired by my travels and working around the world which gives you an aromatic, sweeter profile. It’s presented in a very New York way. Unapologetically loud.”
