SCOTT WRIGHT is determined to stake his claim for a Rangers starting spot after coming off the bench to inspire the champions to victory over Livingston.
Steven Gerrard's side got their Premiership title defence off to a perfect start as Wright followed up on Ianis Hagi's opener before Kemar Roofe added a shine to the scoreline late on.
Wright replaced Hagi on the half hour mark following an early challenge from Adam Lewis that left the Romanian unable to continue after a bright start to the Ibrox clash.
The former Aberdeen forward made the most of his chance to impress and made sure of the points with a lovely finish with the outside of his foot that left keeper Max Stryjek helpless.
And now he is eager to push his cause for a place in the team as attentions turn to the Champions League clash with Malmo on Tuesday evening.
Wright said: “I saw it dropping to me in the box and thought I had to feed it with the outside of my right foot to the back post.
“I am delighted that it has gone in but I am buzzing that we managed to get the three points and start the season strong.
“I feel I am playing some of my best football just now. That is a credit to my team-mates for getting me on the ball and giving me confidence as well.
“It is something I know I need to add to my game, more shots. It is something that I am trying to do.
“I want the shirt and I am here to hopefully try and get the shirt. All I can do is try and show my best on the pitch and try and get it.
“We wanted to start the season strong and I think we did exactly that.”
