THE number of registered sex offenders living in Glasgow has been revealed in new police figures.

There are 706 registered sex offenders living across the city according to the stats published in the Scottish Sun. The city had the most registered sex offenders living in the community.

Lanarkshire recorded the second highest figures with 530.

The figures up to July 1 this year show that there are 4,416 registered sex offenders across Scotland. There are also 1,535 sex offenders either in custody or jail.

There are no missing registered sex offenders in Scotland as of the start of the month but there are 15 wanted offenders.

A statement from Police Scotland said: “As of 1st July 2021 Police Scotland has 15 Wanted Registered Sex Offenders and 0 Missing Registered Sex Offenders.

“Enquiries to date indicate that 13 of the 15 wanted or missing Registered Sex Offenders have left the UK.

“As part of our commitment to demonstrate openness and transparency in respect of the information we hold, Police Scotland will, on a monthly basis, publish data regarding the number of Registered Sex Offenders in our communities, broken down by policing division and postcode area.

“Police Scotland treat all missing and wanted Registered Sex Offenders with the utmost seriousness and will carry out all possible enquiries to trace their whereabouts and to re-establish the management required to protect the public.

“On all occasions a Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) of a rank no less than Inspector will be appointed to lead these investigations.”
