A POLICE probe has been launched into a rammy outside Tynecastle Stadium in Edinburgh ahead of Hearts v Celtic.

The force said they were called to a disturbance involving a large group of people on McLeod Street at 6pm on Saturday night.

Their officers attended and dispersed the crowd.

No one was injured and now police are investigating the incident. 

Reports elsewhere suggested rival fans had been fighting but police provided no further details on the nature of the disturbance.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Around 6pm on Saturday, July 31, a disturbance involving a large group of people occurred on McLeod Street, outside Tynecastle Stadium, in Edinburgh.

“Officers attended and the group of people were dispersed. No-one was injured as a result of the incident and enquiries are ongoing.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with information which could assist our enquiries should call 101, quoting incident 2839 of 31 July.”

The game kicked off at 8pm and hearts won 2-1. 

Meanwhile, one man was arrested outside Ibrox Stadium for allegedly behaving in a threatening and abusive manner. Rangers won 3-0 against Livingston on the first game of the Scottish Premiership season.
