A PETITION demanding Disney stores across the UK stay open has reached more than 12,000 signatures.

It's thought that all of the entertainment giant's toy schops across the UK are being closed, with the exception of its flagship London outlet, as part of major changes planned by the business.

We revealed previously how Glasgow's St Enoch Centre Disney shop will close on August 11.

Now, thousands of people across the country have backed a bid to urgeDisney to keep the shops open.

The original petitioner, Sam Cummins, wrote: "These stores are our gateway to the magical world of Disney. It allows the people of the UK to experience the Disney magic first hand.

"There's a certain magic to going into the store to the shelves filled with stuffed versions of our lovable Disney characters and picking out our very own Donald Duck or Stitch to take home with us.

"Excited children pointing out their favourite characters in the form of toys, costumes, cups, or even on the big screens in-store. The 'cast' are always very welcoming, helpful and dedicated. You can have great conversations about all things Disney. They really bring the magic of the theme parks to the stores.

"We can't let these magical places disappear. It would be a crime not only to us but to all the children who can't experience this magic."

Disney was approached for comment.
