IT is results day for pupils across Scotland who will today receive their qualification certificates.

While envelopes will drop through doors this year in the usual manner, youngsters will already know the contents as they were give their provisional results before the school holidays.

Around 140,000 pupils will receive their official grades for Nationals, Highers, Advanced Highers, Awards, National Progression Awards, and National Certificates.

A Glasgow City Council spokeswoman said: “Our young people received their provisional results before the end of term as part of this year’s alternative certification model and based on teacher judgements so the arrival of today’s certificates should not come as any surprise.

“Our young people have been through some very challenging circumstances this year and should be congratulated for their resilience in coping with what they have had to endure.”

Following the cancellation of the national examination diet due to Covid-19, grades for National 5, Higher, and Advanced Higher courses have been decided by teachers and lecturers using assessments.

Unlike any previous year, learners were told their provisional results before they finished for their summer break in June.

All learners will receive their results certificate delivered to their home address by first class post today.

And those who signed up for and activated their MySQA account will also receive their results by text or email from 8am.

On Results Day, SQA will open its helpline at 8am to answer questions about result certificates.

Young people can also call Skills Development Scotland to speak to dedicated careers advisors about the options that are available to them.

Fiona Robertson, SQA Chief Executive, said: “Undoubtedly, the past 12 months have been some of the most challenging for everyone working in Scottish education, but especially for the thousands of young people receiving their results this year.

“I want to thank learners throughout the country for their work, and their dedication despite the incredibly difficult circumstances they have faced.

"Learners can have confidence in their grades, and rightly be proud of what they have accomplished this year.

“I also want to thank the thousands of teachers, lecturers, and support staff at schools, colleges and training providers across Scotland who have gone to exceptional lengths to support their candidates this year and help them achieve and deliver their results. Without them and their tireless contribution, we could not have certificated candidates this year.”

This summer young people can appeal directly to SQA for free.

Details on how to register an appeal can be found at www.sqa.org.uk/appeals.

SQA’s Candidate Advice Line can be reached on 0345 279 100, and runs from 8am to 6pm today, and from 9am to 5pm on Wednesday 11, Thursday 12, and Friday 13 August.
