Police are probing a horror attack on a 15-year-old boy in Rouken Glen Park at the weekend.

The teenager suffered a head injury and had to be taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment after large scale disorder involving 40 youths.

Officers were called to the East Renfrewshire park on Saturday evening after calls from the public concerned at the behaviour of the boys, which included drinking alcohol and fighting.

Police Scotland say the trouble, involving children aged 14 to 16, broke out at a grassy area next to the pond at Boaters restaurant and then spread across the park.

Inspector Michelle Grant, of Giffnock police office, appealed for any witnesses to come forward. She added: “About 7.30pm on Saturday August 14, several calls were made to police reporting large group of youths around 40 in number within Rouken Glen Park, engaged in anti-social behaviour with one young male having been assaulted.

“Police arrived and a 15-year-old boy was taken to hospital as a precaution and for treatment of a minor injury.

“We continue to address concerns of anti-social behaviour within our parks and open spaces.

“I would urge people to continue to know where their children are when out and about in order to help keep them safe.

“We also continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the assault and ask anyone with any information to please contact Police Scotland, quoting incident number 3515 of August 14, 2021.”

It’s understood that the 15-year-old boy suffered a small cut to the head and did not need further treatment. The Saturday night attack was the latest incident of weekend gang related disorder in Rouken Glen, involving large groups of drunken youths.

In March, three teenagers were rushed to hospital after a “large scale disturbance” in the park. Two boys aged 16 and a 17-year-old boy received treatment for minor injuries.
