OUR city is full of everyday superheroes.

Here at the Glasgow Times, we want to give them their moment in the spotlight.

Our Community Champions awards, supported by Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Housing Association and Trades House of Glasgow, celebrate the men, women and children working hard to make Glasgow a better, brighter and bolder place.

Nominations are now open and with the closing date fast approaching, make sure you tell us about your local hero before it is too late.

Previous winners include Men Matter Scotland, a fantastic charity which supports men of all ages struggling with mental health issues; and Sarah Everett, a Govan nurse who went the extra mile to help people in her community by setting up a local Men’s Shed.

We know there are many more inspirational people like Sarah and Men Matter Scotland out there – let us know all about them.

Once again there will be a public vote to decide regional winners and, new for 2021, we have introduced a special category dedicated to schools.

There are nine trophies up for grabs - Team Award, Individual Award, Public Service Award, Uniformed Services Award, Senior Award, Young Award, Health and Wellbeing Award, Sports Award and School Award – covering three areas of Glasgow: the south, the north-east and the north-west.

You can nominate anyone, from the hardworking grass-roots group looking out for local older people, or the dedicated coach helping young people find their way through sport, to a paramedic who saves lives every day or an inspirational teenager campaigning for local causes.

Tell us why they should win and remember to include lots of detail and photographs to support your entry.

Every year, the judging panel is overwhelmed by the standard of entries which demonstrate the kindness, compassion and hard work displayed by Glaswegians of all ages in all areas of the city.

Already, entries are pouring in - send your nomination now and don’t miss out.

You can nominate on the website at http://newsquestscotlandevents.com/events/glasgowcommchamps

The closing date for entries is Wednesday, September 29.

A shortlist will then go to a public online vote to determine the winners in each area, who will then progress to the Grand Final at Glasgow City Chambers on December 1.

A judging panel made up of representatives from the awards’ partners, will decide the Grand Final winners.
