Glasgow couple Aman and Ranu Kooner are leading an interior design revolution right here in the city.

Their company, Bonnie Hame, is the first in Scotland and one of only a handful in the UK, to offer subscription home decor boxes.

The latest home design trend in America, influencers and Instagrammers cannot get enough of it - but it has yet to explode in quite the same way here in the UK.

“We’re very excited - it’s a huge concept in the United States but has not really taken off here yet, “ explained Ranu.

“We’re aiming it at those who like to refresh their home accessories every season.

“Bonnie Hame combines our desire to sell beautiful and unusual furniture from artisan producers in our homeland of India, with what we see as a yet untapped market in home accessory subscription boxes.”

The boxes are supplied four times a year to online subscribers and contain a selection of items such as candle-holders, soft furnishings and tableware.

The company is also hoping to introduce a gift box for those who do not want to subscribe to the full service but who would like to send a gift for a housewarming or special occasion.

Interiors boxes follow in the footsteps of wine and beauty products which have also become popular in recent years.

“Busy consumers are increasingly looking to have the hard work done for them,” said Aman. “The concept of a collection every few months is instantly appealing. They can receive products which are just released, or are perhaps exclusive to these brands.”

He added: “Items for the home are a great fit with this, especially as the pandemic has meant consumers have lavished far more love, attention and money on their homes than ever before.

“We’re coming out of the pandemic now, but online shopping is here to stay - some people won’t be visiting physical shops as often as they were before.”

Ranu and Aman came up with the name for Bonnie Hame during a brainstorming session.

“I’m English, and Aman and our two young sons are Scottish,” said Ranu, smiling.

“We were playing about with names and I said the business was all about creating a beautiful home, and straight away Aman said: ‘Oh, in Scotland, that could be Bonnie Hame...’”

She laughed: “We liked it, so that was that. Our concept is very visual, so we’re encouraging our customers to share everything on social media to build a community.

“We want to know how they end up using our products, where in the house they are placed, how they perhaps mix and match with other lines and favourite items they have.

“We provide our own styling tips with each box too, so we hope that it’s all very engaging.”

Ranu added with a laugh: “I loved home accessorising before, but now I’m obsessed with it.”
