HOLLYWOOD is set to take over Glasgow once again as pre-production gets underway for the upcoming DC blockbuster movie Batgirl.

Directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who shot to fame with 2020 film Bad Boys for Life, shared their arrival at Glasgow Airport on Tuesday.

The pair snapped a photo next to the baggage carousel and El Arbi posted it on Instagram with the caption: “Just landed in Gotham City” alongside a bat emoji.

Filming for the highly-antipicated HBO flick will take place across the city in November, according to Glasgow Live.

Production designer Christopher Glass shared a photo of himself and the director duo yesterday while location scouting in the city, with the caption: "We're back!".

Leslie Grace, of recent In The Heights fame, is set to take on the role of the masked vigilante Batgirl – crime-fighting alter ego of Barbara Gordon.

J.K. Simmons is rumoured to be reprising his role as Commissioner Gordon after starring as the character in Zack Snyder's Justice League in 2017, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

British screenwriter Christina Hodson, best known for her work on Bumblebee and Birds of Prey, is also penning the script for Batgirl, which has a release date set for 2022 or 2023.

Glasgow has recently become the filming hotspot for Hollywood blockbusters, with two big budget movies shooting across the city already this summer.

DC's superhero flick The Flash and the fifth instalment of Indiana Jones both filmed scenes on city centre streets last month.

In February 2020, film crews were spotted next to Glasgow Cathedral and in the Necropolis for The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader.
