FESTIVAL-GOERS can have a sneak peek around the site of Scotland’s biggest music event before it kicks off this weekend.

TRNSMT Festival will see up to 50,000 revellers flock to Glasgow Green on Friday and take over the city centre park until Sunday.

The three-day event will see more than 80 acts play over three different stages – the main stage, King Tut's stage and the river stage.

We visited the festival site to have a look at what music fans can expect.

The huge main stage is almost complete, with organisers making the final touches to the set-up of the new structure.

At this year's festival, there will be ‘barrier pens’ introduced at the front of the main stage for punters to enjoy, with festival bosses saying the areas will ensure “a safe experience for all”.

The two smaller stages, King Tut's stage and river stage, were still under contruction.

There are lots of seating areas near to the food stands on site – as well as a handful of phone charging, free drinking water and recycling points – that attendees can make good use of.

There are plenty of bars spread out across the Green and the infamous portaloos are all lined up at the ready.

TRNSMT will operate a cashless site for the first time with all vendors now accepting contactless payments, including Apple and Android Pay.

Merchandise stalls will offer music fans the chance to nab their favourite artist merch over the weekend and fairground rides will be at the west entrance, including the famous Ferris wheel.

Gig-goers will be pleased to hear that the weather is expected to be mostly dry as the festival makes its return, with a chance of light rain on Friday.

However, revellers are unlikely to catch a tan in the crowds as cloudy and overcast conditions are predicted for most of the weekend.

Indie rockers The Courteeners are set to headline on Friday, while fellow Mancunian and former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher will take to the main stage on Saturday night.

Electronic duo The Chemical Brothers will close the three-day festival on Sunday.

The festival will be held for the first time in more than two years after bosses were forced to cancel it last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Glasgow Times: DF Concerts chief executive Geoff EllisDF Concerts chief executive Geoff Ellis

Geoff Ellis, CEO of DF Concerts, who runs the music festival, told the Glasgow Times he is delighted that TRNSMT is back in the city.

He said: “Seeing all of the contractors on site, the stewards, people setting up the bars, people building the stages – everybody is so happy to see each other.

“The real excitement will be at 11am on Friday morning when we open the gates and people start to come in. Just to see how that excitement amongst the audience will lift people's spirits.

“I think seeing the crowd here, the smiles on their faces as they enjoy being at a live music festival again, that's why we do it.

"Everybody feeds off it and it's great for everyone's mental health and wellbeing, to be at a music festival."

The festival boss added: "There's some fantastic new artists, like Griff, Lyra and The Lathums, who have come through to be quite big acts since we booked them.

"Then there's the headliners, such as AJ Tracey, Blossoms and The Snuts, who are a recent addition as well. There's a great array of music each day across the stages.

"The beauty of this site – whilst it's big – it's not too big to wander between all the stages and check out a bit of each artist."

Colin Rodger, head of event management at DF Concerts, said: "We've got a new main stage structure that's never been up before, so it's really exciting to see that in its full glory.

“It'll be an amazing weekend, but you've to remember it's the bands and the people who come along who make the weekend.

"Scottish audiences are the best in the world, so I'm looking forward to seeing those audiences coming back in and doing what they do.

"It's the most uplifting thing, to be at a TRNSMT event."
