TWO artists who were forced to cancel gigs amid Covid fears are now confirmed to play at TRNSMT this weekend.

Sam Fender and Declan McKenna were both set to play the main stage at Glasgow Green, but had to cancel tour dates across the UK after a close encounter with coronavirus.

Both touring parties booked PCR tests earlier this week and the artists have since received negative results, confirmed by the Glasgow Green festival's boss.

Speaking about the scare, CEO of DF Concerts Geoff Ellis said: "They've tested negative, so that's great news.

"Sam had to cancel his two shows at Barrowlands, which we'll reschedule. It was mainly precautionary until everybody in his party was able to take PCR tests.

"Fortunately, I got a text through from Sam's team to say that he's definitely fine and he'll be at TRNSMT which is great news and similarly with Declan McKenna as well.

"So, touch wood and fingers crossed that we'll have no pull-outs. Everybody's got to keep safe and do their best to keep safe. But so far, so good."

Sam Fender, who was supposed to play two shows at the Barrowland Ballroom this week, announced the postponement on his Instagram story.

On Tuesday, he said that "half of the touring party are coughing their guts up", suggesting they were suffering from symptoms of coronavirus.

The Geordie singer, who will play the main stage on Friday, said: "Been an absolutely amazing run of festivals, best gigs of our lives. Can't believe I'm writing this but half of our touring party has been coughing their guts up.

"We're going to do the right and responsible thing and get us all PCR tested. We're gonna have to move the Barrowlands dates to be safe.

"Sorry Glasgow - hopefully we get to make it up to you at TRNSMT."

The star joked that he "probably got it off" fellow TRNSMT artist Declan McKenna, who revealed on Monday that a member of his band had tested positive for the virus.
