Have you ever found yourself down a deep hole of youtube eating challenge videos and started to convince yourself that you could easily tackle the same sized portions?

If so, it's time to put your money where your mouth is with Tophski's in Cathcart who have thrown down the gauntlet with a formidable food challenge under a very tricky time limit.

As it stands, there have been 14 attempts to conquer the fried feast and no winners.

We spoke to manager Tam Young who gave us the low down on what brave challengers can expect, should they step up to the plate.

He said: “We started out doing this as a share box with chicken, mozzarella sticks, chips and dips but then we had a lot of customers coming in and giving it big talk saying that they could easily finish them all themselves.

“That’s when we decided to make a challenge out of it.

“What we have are two loaded portions of chicken which adds up to a kilo in total with Buffalo and BBQ sauce.

“There are six mozzarella sticks which we make ourselves from scratch with about a quarter block of cheese.

“Then we serve two large portions of fries covered in Cajun seasoning and you can choose your dips to go in the middle whether that’s blue cheese sauce, chipotle or more buffalo.”

Tam tells us that the photos you see on social media are exactly what you're served for the challenge and, at a first glance, the competitive part of us can't help but think it doesn't look all that tough.

It's when talk turns to the sheer quantities of fried food on the platter that we start to lose our nerve.

Tam said: “We give you a 30-minute time limit to finish the full tray and it has to be done without any help. The only part you don’t have to finish is the dips.

“As it stands none of the 14 people who have tried it, and they all came in saying it would be easy.

“We post a photo of what was left when they’re finished and most of the time it’s still about half the platter.

“We do let you take the rest home with you though.”

The prize for winning? Even more food. As well as some serious bragging rights, of course.

Tam said: “We’ve seen other places where you get something branded like a hat with a logo for winning, but that’s not what we wanted to do.

“If you win you get a full-sized Malteser cake which is one of our signatures. We wanted to give people something that's simple but good quality.

“Retail value for the cake is worth more than you’re paying for the platter, lasts for a good few days and everybody loves it.

“Even when people are eating in the shop there’s always room for cake.”

With no winners yet, more and more people are lining up to test their gastronomic limits at Tophski's, but Tam and the team don't plan on being bested any time soon.

He said: “One of our friends messaged me today and said ‘I could do that no bother’ but I just told him that’s exactly what the 14 others said as well.

“There are a whole bunch of people booked in to give it a go over the next few days, even a few bodybuilders, we’re expecting to see the place quite full.

“We’re definitely going to be doing a lot more challenges in the future so watch this space.”

Go on then Glasgow, who’s going for the glory?
