MANCHESTER indie heavyweights The Courteeners paid the ultimate tribute to Scotland by opening their headlining TRNSMT set with a traditional bagpiper.

The nod to Scottish tradition then lead to a rousing rendition of the national anthem Flower of Scotland from the 50,000 crowd at the Glasgow Green before frontman Liam Fray revealed himself wearing a tartan kilt.

Opening with the anthem Are You in Love with a Notion?, the charismatic singer beamed, “Good evening Glasgow!”

He then took in the crowd and screamed, “f***ing hell”.

The hits then quickly followed as the band belted out No One Will Ever Replace Us, Summer and Take Over The World.

But yet stunned Fray confessed: “I wish you guys could see how f***ing good this is, honest to God.”

Liam then smiled: “You always treat us like one of your own. We always feel at home when we come here."
