Verdict: 3.5 out of 5
SELF-proclaimed 'gloom pop' band The Ninth Wave stunned fans last night with a stellar headline gig at TRNSMT Festival.
A few hundred eager revellers flocked to the River Stage to see the bold Glasgow-based quartet do what they do best.
The synth-punk outfit is comprised of childhood friends Millie Kidd and Haydn Park-Patterson, alongside musicians Kyalo Searle-Mbullu and Calum Stewart.
The group kicked off their set with the anthemic Happy Days!, feeding the already raucous Glaswegian crowd, leading into I'm Only Going To Hurt You, where frontman Haydn lost his blazer mid-song.
The four-piece continued their run of snarling synths and haunting vocals on Maybe You Didn't Know and new track Hard Not To Hold You.

The noise-pop band played at the Glasgow Green music event in 2018 and have since made appearances at SXSW and on the European festival circuit.
"You having a good night, aye?", Park-Patterson yelled out to the ever-growing audience before launching into Piece and Pound Coins – a song about grief and loss against a backdrop of swirling synths and pulsing beats.
Frontman Haydn asked, "You ready to dance a wee bit?", but the crowd responded with a lack of "gusto", according to the lead vocalist.
West End bassist Kidd quickly jumped in, exclaiming, "You're meant to be f**king drunk!", which earned a few more enthused cheers from the fans.
Glam-tinged All the Things We Do was a hit with punters, followed by a tune the band hadn't played in a while.

Park-Patterson kept the Glaswegian crowd on edge. "Wait a wee minute", he uttered as he tuned his guitar, "I'm not telling you what's next, you'll need to guess", he remarked as the beat began to take hold and a sea of hands clapped in the air.
The striking vocal dynamic of dark, gothic New Kind of Ego and the twisted optimism of Everything Will Be Fine kept the ball rolling, wrapping up with the mighty This Broken Design.
"What goes up must come down" the rockers belt out in opening track Happy Days!, but based on their standout headline set – it seems the only way is up for this spunky Glaswegian band.
