AN East End shop's bid to serve up a fresh look has been rejected by planning chiefs.

Bosses at Noor Food Store, 589 Gallowgate, have been refused permission to takeover a neighbouring lot and add a hot food takeaway.

The shop, which specialises in Halal-certified produce, has grown in popularity since opening just last year and had hoped to meet increased demands.

But council chiefs last week blocked the bid, saying it went against the local development plan. It was argued the area is already exceeding the 20% limit on "the number of units in use as a hot food shop, public house, composite public house or composite hot food shop use in the street block".

In planning documents submitted to Glasgow City Council previously, agent Keith Edwards Architect wrote: “The existing premises is a single-storey shop which was formerly part of the ground floor shops below a three-storey tenement, which has now been removed.”

“The proposal is for the extension of one shop into the next door premises, 587, and be part of the main shop.

“There is one wall to be removed which is the separating wall and is non-load bearing.

“The floor between the two properties is to be made good with concrete.”

The document added: “The formerly empty shop walls are to be stripped and lined with timber frame."
