ANNUAL Southside event Moira's Run is back this year to raise much-needed funds for the charity set up in memory of Moira Jones.

The 40-year-old was raped and murdered in Queen's Park in 2008 but her memory is kept alive by the Moira Fund.

This year's event, like last year's, will be a virtual one - meaning people can run or walk the 5k route around the park on their own or in small groups.

Moira’s mum, Bea, is hoping for another wonderful turnout.

Glasgow Times:

She said: "This year again, as there are still concerns about covid, another virtual run has been planned over the weekend of October 23 and 24, meaning anyone can take part anywhere, at any time, over these two days, anywhere they want to walk or run.

"They can run all in one go or spread over the weekend, by themselves or with others - even with their dog.

"Maybe some will make it a family outing or a wee team event?"

The run celebrates Moira's life and raises much-needed funds to help families struggling to cope with the loss of a loved one through murder, struggling financially as well as in every other way.

The charity, set up by her family and run from their home without any official funding, has now helped more than 1000 families nationwide in many ways.

Glasgow Times:

Last year friends, family members and supporters ran for Moira from as far afield as Cornwall in the south to Inverness and the Isle of Lewis in the north, and even in Greece and Canada.

Bea added: "It was very moving and so worthwhile."

Bea said many of those they work with, the police and homicide support organisations, will be well represented and that there will be family members of victims taking part too which means a great deal to them.

Bea hopes that many will want to join in and enjoy not just the exercise but also being part of something bigger, something which will create ripples of care and generosity and help many devastated and desperate families.
