A DISTRAUGHT dog owner told how her Shih-Tzu puppy was left with horror injuries after it was viciously attacked by two dogs as her elderly mother walked it.

Bradley, aged 14 months, was left broken ribs, lung contusions, a crushed diaphragm and puncture wounds after he was pounced on by two dogs.

Little Bradley was being walked by his owner’s elderly mother Elizabeth Rae, 70, when a German Shepherd and a Siberian Husky reportedly leapt over a garden wall and attacked him.

Gran-of-five Elizabeth tried to rescue Bradley as he was pulled apart by the canines – but one bit her hand while the other pounced up and bit her face.

Terrified Elizabeth was rushed to Wishaw General hospital, North Lanarkshire, where she had to be given a tetanus shot.

Bradley’s owner Katrina Glasgow, 42, said her mum has been left traumatised by the attack, while she had to fork out £2,500 for vet bills to save her beloved pooch.

Delivery driver Katrina, from Motherwell, fears the dogs could hurt someone else.

The mum-of-two said: “Mum was out walking the dog when she heard all this commotion.

"Before she knew what was happening the two dogs were attacking Bradley.

“There was one at each end of him, thrashing him about and biting him.

“Mum was trying to help Bradley and screaming for help when one of the dogs bit her on the hand and the other jumped up and bit her face.

“She had to go to the hospital and have a tetanus injection.

“Bradley was rushed to the vets, he was gushing with blood and struggling to breathe.

“He had two broken ribs, his diaphragm was crushed, two vertebrae were out of place, he had bruising behind his eye, puncture wounds all over his body and he couldn’t walk.

“The vet told us they didn’t know if he would survive, but they called us around midnight to say he had stabilised.

“It was such a horrible experience, he is only 14 months old, and they didn’t think he was going to make it – he is lucky to be alive.

“My two kids were distraught, they kept saying please let him live mum.”

Katrina said her mum can still see the attack – which took place on August 29 - every time she closes her eyes and that her children are terrified.

She added: “My mum is still shaken up about it and said every time she closes her eyes, she can see the attack.

“Her wounds have healed but she has been left with emotional ones, and we are left having to see these dogs every day still.

“The kids are terrified to walk past the house or see the dogs.

“We thought the dogs would have been put down because this was a vicious attack – surely something has to be done.

“We have all been left traumatised by it and just hope the dogs don’t attack anyone else.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A complaint has been received and will be fully investigated.

"It would be inappropriate to comment further while this ongoing and the complainer will be fully updated in due course.”

A council spokesperson said: “The incident has been fully investigated by an Animal Welfare Officer from North Lanarkshire Council and appropriate action is being taken in terms of the Control of Dogs (Scotland) Act 2010.”
