A THUG mowed down a man in his car - after an earlier fall out over a games console.

Paul Lambe, 36, was clocked on CCTV mounting the pavement and ploughing into Gary Clark.

The victim was hurled into the air, but luckily survived the horror incident in Glasgow's Craigend on June 28 2019.

Jurors heard how Lambe had been due to hand over a child's PlayStation to his ex-partner but then refused after going into a "huff" when he saw her with Mr Clark.

Lambe is now behind bars after he was convicted of attempted murder following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

A judge branded the crime "potentially catastrophic". Lambe will be sentenced next month.

Lambe, also of Craigend, had repaired the PlayStation and his former lover was due to collect it that day.

He believed she would be on her own, but claimed the woman "lied" to him when he spotted Mr Clark in her car.

Lambe said he was "angry" his ex had brought the man with her.

As a result, petty Lambe told jurors: "I was adamant that she was not getting the PlayStation."

He said he was then returning from a Chinese takeaway when he happened to spot Mr Clark at a bus stop.

Lambe said they briefly traded insults. He claimed he planned to drive on, but then turned his Ford Fiesta around to "frighten" Mr Clark.

However, he ended up mounting the kerb where the victim was standing.

Mr Clark was struck, smacking the windscreen before crashing to the ground.

Lambe's lawyer Edward Gilroy asked him: "What did you think when you hit him?"

He replied: "S**t...panic."

Lambe ended up going back to his home where his ex was still hoping to have the games console returned.

He told her: "You better get round and get your boyfriend."

Mr Clark was said to have been hurt to his severe injury and danger of his life.

Prosecutor Erin Campbell said Lambe did not care if the victim "lived or died".

She put to Lambe during the trial: "Mr Clark had made no effort to get out or threaten you.

"So, you could have given (Lambe's former partner) the PlayStation and had no exchange with him.

"But, you took the huff because she had brought Mr Clark - is that fair?"

Lambe: "Yes."

Miss Campbell said Lambe had not gone for a takeaway, instead went looking for Mr Clark and drove "directly" at him.

Judge Michael O'Grady QC deferred sentencing for reports. Lambe had been on bail, but was remanded meantime.

The judge told him: "This was a cowardly attack - a vicious, foolhardy and potentially catastrophic one."
