SOUTHSIDE foodies have been left "absolutely devastated" at the news a much-loved Strathbungo venue has shut for good.

Anyone who's eaten at Gnom will have raved about the Turkish eggs, the French toast ice cream sandwiches and the bao buns.

But these treats are no more as the Pollokshaws Road venue has closed its doors permanently after an "unforgettable" three years.

In a social media post, owners gave heartfelt thanks to the community for making them so welcome.

But they said the time to go is now.

An Instagram post reads: "We would like to announce that after an unforgettable 3.5 years we have stopped trading at 758 Pollokshields Road.

"Our heartfelt thanks:

"To our customers, who have supported us throughout thick and thin and eaten copious amounts of Turkish eggs and bao buns.

"We have felt most welcome in the Southside, thanks to you for coming back time and time again.

"To our family and friends, who without their support, shoulder to cry on and wine in their hands we would quite frankly have been unable to continue, even to this point.

"To our staff, who throughout the years have become more like family, we are so grateful and proud.

"Here's to community, in all senses of the word.

"For now, on to adventures new for us three.

"We leave with smiles on our faces and who knows, you may see us again sometime.

"It's time for someone else to start something new.

"Fliss, Andrew and Tom."

Glasgow Food Girl Blog replied to the post with: "Absolutely devastated to hear this, although have been waiting for you to confirm the news in recent weeks."

The reply was among dozens expressing sadness at the end of the popular restaurant.

Another response read: "So many fun memories here.

"Your amazing bao buns cured many a hangover and the donuts will be sorely missed."

New venture Lobo Glasgow is taking over the venue but its website and social media is giving nothing away for now - other than an autumn opening date.

Diners on the Southside are going to be very closely watching this space.
