A TEENAGE singing sensation hit all the right notes as she came out on top at a prestigious ceremony.

Talented Mayah Herlihy, who has previously scaled the download charts, picked up four prizes at the Country Gigs Scotland (CGS) awards.

Named female artist of the year, entertainer of the year, and young female artist of the year, the Lanarkshire schoolgirl also shared the champion of the year gong with Alfie King for their efforts to raise cash for Glasgow’s Beatson Cancer Charity.

This was especially close to the Brannock High pupil’s heart as her cousin Mel Welsh spent time at the Great Western Road hub receiving treatment for leukaemia. Not only did Mayah climb Ben Nevis but she donated all proceeds from single Your Fight – penned in Mel’s honour – to the charity.

The 14-year-old said: “I am really overwhelmed.

“Even just to be nominated was so special. I didn’t expect to win any awards, never mind four of them and I was quite excited to win the charity award for what we did for the Beatson.

“I was up against some amazing artists.”

As we have told previously, Mayah has enjoyed great success in her breakthrough year, securing number one singles on a multiple download charts and paying homage to Mount Vernon – where her grandparents live – by capturing her song covers there.

For her effort, she was sent a letter of congratulations from the area’s MP David Linden.

She added: “Looking back at the last year and on all of the singles I have released, I am really proud of myself.

“I only really started this year and it’s incredible what has happened.”

Mayah, who is in the running for two UK Country Music Awards, which will be announced on Saturday, also confirmed she had pushed back the release of her debut album.

She said: “I had hoped to release it this year but I have decided to push it back.

“It’s my debut album and I want to take my time and make sure it’s exactly as I want it to be.

“At least my idea of perfect!”
