A KIND-HEARTED hairdresser has been helping people who have been struggling through the pandemic feel their best again by offering free haircuts.

Danielle Ferguson has run Flawless by Danielle on Tollcross Road for the last five years. Since re-opening in April after coronavirus restrictions lifted, she said she has been so busy, she has not been able to take on any new clients and so, she decided to give a little something back.

Posting on a local Facebook group, Danielle announced she would be giving free cuts to people who had been struggling throughout the pandemic. She said: "It wasn't really for publicity - it was just give a wee bit back.

"We've been so busy, I've not been able to take on new clients.

"I just thought to myself: 'I'm going to give something back to people who maybe are struggling'."

Glasgow Times:

"I know there are people out there who are struggling to feed their kids never mind take them a haircut. They would get their kids' hair cut but they'll not get anything done to themself. It's such a shame."

Danielle decided to offer the free styling last Thursday - one of her salon's busiest days - so that everyone was treated equally and nobody knew the difference between paying customers and those who were in for their free cut.

She said: "Nobody knew who was coming in, the staff members didn't know that person was in for a free haircut. they got treated the exact same as everybody else and that's what I wanted."

"I wanted them to come in and relax. They're in for their cut and blowdry and I wanted them to feel just the same as everybody else."

Glasgow Times:

The clients were "so grateful" and revealed one woman had brought the stylists in a huge box of chocolates. She said: "You get upset because you're just like: that's so nice."

"Everybody was so grateful. Our stylists were just being so nice and by the end of appointment they felt better.

"Somebody had said to me that her dad passed away and she wasn't doing anything. When she came in, she tagged us in a post and said we had made her feel so happy.

Glasgow Times:

"Wee things like that it just makes you feel so happy,"

Danielle also welcomed NHS workers who had worked through the pandemic and had been able to find the time to get their hair cut. She added: "NHS workers have worked so hard through the pandemic and they probably didn't have a chance to treat themselves or anything like that could come in because we appreciate them so much."

Danielle now plans on offering the free haircuts once a month with days for homeless people and for kids. She added: "Haircuts are free. It's just my time I'm giving up."
