The vaccine passport scheme will come into force on Friday, Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed.

The First Minister said it will apply from 5am when to enter nightclubs and certain indoor and outdoor events, adults over 18 will need to prove they are fully vaccinated.

The covid status app will go live on Thursday where people can download a QR code to prove their status.

However, she said there would be a two week grace period for business before any enforcement action is taken for non-compliance to allow them to get procedures in place.

Sturgeon said she is aware “many businesses have concerns” but she said that a “targeted scheme has a part to play in driving vaccinations rates as high as possible~”.

The First Minister said that there will be two weeks , until October 18 before any business faces enforcement for not carrying out the checks..

She said: “We are listening to businesses about practical issues.”

She said that vaccination was the “single most important thing” anyone can do  to protect themselves.

The First Minister said covid rates were falling an Scotland was in a “much better position than wemight have hoped for a few weeks ago.

But she added, “there was no room for complacency”.

The latest figures showed there were 2370  new positive cases and 1027 people in hospital yesterday.

She said: “The figures reported show, although cases remain at a high level, they are continuing to fall.”

She added cases increased more than five-fold in August but said since then, average daily cases have halved and numbers now are below the previous peak of early July.

Sturgeon said through a “collective endeavor” the country has achieved and “overall reduction without the need to re-introduce lock down restrictions”.
