We don’t mean to boast so often about our city’s foodie credentials, but with top awards like the National Burger of the year coming home to a Glasgow restaurant, it’s hard not to.

The talented team at El Perro Negro have scooped this year's award for their Top Dog burger which beat stiff competition from 14 other restaurants from across the UK.

This is the second time that the Top Dog burger has won the award making El Perro Negro the only kitchen who can call themselves two time winners.

Chef Nick Watkins told Dine Out magazine, who held the awards at a London Ceremony this week: "It’s a huge thing to win the National Burger Awards.

"We hope winning this time around will be just as massive for us. The competition is getting tougher, no doubt, with huge names coming in. It’s definitely gone up another level.

"To enter with the same burger again was a massive gamble, but this is our signature and our biggest seller.

"It’s the first burger I ever made in this business, and it’s still our number one.”

The restaurant team took to Instagram to announce their win with a post captioned “Oops we did it again. National Burger of the Year Award winners 2019 AND 2021! First ever to win it twice. Wow!"

The Top Dog starts with a burger made from dry-aged, grass-fed beef which is then topped with bone marrow and Roquefort butter, double bacon, caramelised onions and black truffle mayo to elevate it to gold medal status.

Served on their menu since the opening of their first location in Finnieston back in 2018 it's always been a winner in our eyes.
