Since 2006, Scottish housebuilder Avant Homes has built 1155 properties in Glasgow and is set to be home to over 3500 people when their project is completed in 2023.

Now the company, based in Stirling, is celebrating 15 years regenerating the area of Richmond Gate in Oatlands. Glasgow Times:

The substantial 32.2-acre land was formerly the site of run down Glasgow tenement buildings, before they were demolished in 1999. It has now become a mixture of houses and apartments. 72 apartments are currently in construction and 164 are still to come.

The project also aims to create a greater sense of community, with new amenities, improved city links and highly ranked schools.

Avant Homes Scotland sales and marketing director, Theresa Barbour said: “Oatlands is a historic area that we have worked hard over the last 15 years to regenerate into a community that we and its residents can be proud of.

“With the build set to complete in 2023, we’re very pleased to have had the opportunity to preserve this area close to Glasgow, while also working to create a thriving outer-city culture that people want to call home.”

Avant Homes are also hoping to boost the community with an artwork initiative. Four pieces of art will be displayed in the completed Richmond Gate.Glasgow Times:

The first, 'River Spirit' is a hand-carved sculpture by Kate Thomson. The second, 'Oatlands Girl' is a 4m tall marine-grade stainless steel sculpture by Scottish artist Rob Mulholland with the help of local residents and schoolchildren.Glasgow Times:

The third, 'Upriver', is a piece comprising of 7 and 11 metre high mast sculptures and sails inspired by Richmond Model Boat Club. A fourth design is to be unveiled upon the development's completion in 2023.

Theresa continued: “Throughout our time building Richmond Gate, we’ve formed brilliant relationships with local people, groups and organisations, which is illustrated by the public art we have on display across the development.

“Working with Glasgow City Council as well as local artists and designers really fosters the sense of community spirit that we’re trying to create with the regeneration of Oatlands, and we can’t wait to see the completed development and artworks in 2023.”
