A "SERIOUS" crash has taken place on a busy road in Glasgow this morning.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at Eglinton Street in the Southside of the city at 8.45am.

The main road was closed due to the accident, and drivers are being advised to avoid the area.

Glasgow City Council announced: "Due to an earlier road traffic collision, Eglinton Street is closed in both directions between Cook Street and Nelson Street/Norfolk Street."

Enquiries into the crash are ongoing, as police remain at the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 8.45am on Wednesday, October 6, police were called to a serious road crash in Eglinton Street, Glasgow.

"Emergency services are in attendance and Eglinton Street is currently closed at Wallace Street.

"Enquiries are continuing."
