Still Game actor and comedian Sanjeev Kohli welcomed a group of 1000 COP26 volunteers in Glasgow today ahead of the highly-anticpiated summit.
The star, best known for entertaining Glaswegians as shop owner Navid in the comedy series Still Game, hosted the event at Strathclyde University ahead of COP26, which takes place in Glasgow from October 31 to November 12.
The event was held at the University's Technology and Information Centre, and featured encouraging messages from COP26 president Alok Sharma and Glasgow City Council Lead Councillor Susan Aitken.
Event mascot Bonnie the Seal also stopped in to greet the volunteers in the midst of her tour of local schools teaching children about protecting the planet.
Councillor Susan Aitken said: “The UN Climate Change process is about collective action and everyone stepping up to make a difference. Our incredible COP26 volunteers are doing exactly that, welcoming the world to our city for such a crucial moment in the future of our planet. The volunteers coming together for the first time marks an important milestone in this fantastic volunteer programme and an inspiring day for all involved, made all the more exciting by a visit from Bonnie the seal.”
Funnyman Sanjeev spent time with volunteers talking about climate change in preparation for the summit, which is to be held at the Scottish Exhibition Centre (SEC).
