More than 2,600 new Covid infections have been recorded by the Scottish Government in the past 24 hours.

A total of 2,691 fresh cases have been identified, a fall from yesterday's total of 3,055. 

There have been a further 39 new reported deaths, an increase of five from yesterday's total of 34. 

The number of people in hospital being treated for the virus in hospital is now 980, a fall from yesterday's total of 988.

Of those being treated in hospital, 69 are in intensive care, one more than the day before.

The overall death toll from the virus in Scotland is now 8,760 by the Scottish Government's measure, which counts those who registered a positive test in the past 28 days.

Separate figures produced by National Records of Scotland, which report deaths where Covid was mentioned on the death certificate, put the number at 11,134 as of 3 October. 

Of the 42,191 new tests for Covid-19 which reported results yesterday, 6.8 per cent were positive.

The vaccination scheme continues to roll out, 4,235,075 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 3,854,847 have received their second dose.
