A mother-of-two has transformed her life and started a new career after purchasing her dream home.

Salon owner Jeri Ryan purchased a four-bedroom Yeats two years ago at Miller Homes Springhill Meadows development in Barrhead.

While she found styling her blank canvas home daunting at first, she fell in love with design and has since gained more than 11,000 followers on her Instagram account @home_style_glasgow, which showcases her interior journey.

Now, she is helping homebuyers across the UK transform their new homes as an online interior stylist.

Jeri said: “I never expected that buying my Miller home would lead me to a whole new part of my career, but my interiors blog took off, and I am so passionate about it.

“I started my account because I was learning so much and thought it might be helpful to share the process with others.

“It gathered so much momentum and led to me studying an online interior design course during lockdown last year, which was challenging but rewarding.

“I’m now making mood boards for people all over the UK, supporting them on their design journey and helping them style their homes on their budget.

“I absolutely love living in my Miller home, and I’d do it all over again – except that I never want to move from here!”

For anyone decorating a new home, Jeri recommends gathering inspiration online and creating a mood board for each room.

She said: “I’ve always loved interiors and think it’s essential to be organised in your home, as it makes things a lot easier to manage.

“The great thing about a new-build home is you can start from a clean slate, but to avoid being overwhelmed, it is worth taking time to get the basics in place (or at least planned out) before you move in.

“I always say that I want my home to look nice, but it has to be functional.

“I created my mood boards using a free app called Pic Collage and made a shopping list to cost everything out to help us stick to our budget.

“I think it’s worth spending a bit of extra money where you can on getting things exactly how you want them; otherwise, you can end up paying more in the long run, because you’ll just change it.

“I love freshening up our interiors with small touches, plants, cushions or even towels, as long as you get the big purchase items correct at the start; it’s easier to swap things around and bring in new accessories now and again.”
