A STUNNING new public art piece was unveiled in the University of Glasgow's new James McCune Smith Learning Hub (JMSLH).

The painting is on the inside of the building’s glass façade, which opened earlier this year.

Created by Venetian graffiti artist, Peeta, the mural stands 13m tall and 8m wide.

Peeta was the winner of an international mini-competition, supported by SWG3 and undertaken by the Development Board of the JMSLH project.

He said that the 3D aspect, also present in this painting, is very significant in his work.

University of Glasgow student, Emma said: "It feels very new age and futuristic, which I think fits into the learning hub space. It evokes hope for the future of graduates and education as a whole."

The JMSLH has a capacity of over 2,500 students and boasts multiple active learning spaces, cafes and social areas.

"I was honoured to have been chosen to install a mural on the new JMS Building which, hopefully, will make it an even more dynamic and innovative space for the students who use it," Peeta added.

Professor Frank N. Coton, Sponsor JMS Learning and Teaching Hub Vice-Principal (Academic Planning and Technological Innovation) said: "The mural, located close to the main entrance to the building, was carefully chosen to integrate with the building design while overtly challenging perception and providing a stimulus for discussion and reflection.

"It is another reason to come and experience the great atmosphere the building provides."
