The baby crowned Glasgow’s cutest kiddie for 2021 received the torch from his cousin.

Lucas Deans, aged two, is the winner of this year’s Times Tots competition. He was entered after his cousin Aisla won the title in the last edition, in 2019.

Mum Danielle Alexander said: “My wee boy was at an age where we could enter him and we're that competitive that when we realised it was running again, we were like 'let's try and get him to win'. And then he did.

“It's nice to know that she won it and Lucas was the next to win, so it's a wee joke in the family now that my wee niece has passed the crown to her little cousin.”

Although Lucas is not the first baby in the family to grace the Glasgow Times pages, his victory was welcomed with excitement.

Glasgow Times:

Danielle, who works as a dental nurse, said: “It was great seeing the teeny tiny picture on the paper when he was in the final and opening up to see he came first, it was a good wee feeling.

“He just turned two last Saturday as well, so that was a nice wee birthday present,” she added.

As the winner, the two-year-old and his family have won a £1,000 cash prize.

The family are planning on spending the money for some playground equipment, including a slide and a playhouse for Lucas to play outside.

Glasgow Times:

“He is a very active child, so we thought that would be the perfect idea for him.

“He likes being outdoors and absolutely loves trees so everytime we're at the park, he's always in the trees.”

Runners up are three-year-old Myla McIntosh, who won £350, and joint third places Regan McCulley and Elara Perrie, who received £150 each.
