A MAN has been hit with a tag after waving a knife around at a birthday party.

Kevin McCaughey behaviour was described in Glasgow Sheriff Court as "irrational" after he was collared for kicking off at the event on December 29, 2020.

Depute fiscal Lauren Ram Sangray told the court it was around 11.30pm when an argument broke out.

The 37-year-old began to shout at the witness in an aggressive manner and was waving a knife with a three to four inch blade.

His defence lawyer said: "It seems to have been a birthday party and given the time of year a lot of drink had been taken.

"Really he was mumbling and ranting about nothing in particular and waving this knife about.

"They were concerned about his behaviour because it was irrational, ranting, shouting and waving this knife about.

"The police did not recover the knife so he disposed of that but he can't remember where.

McCaughey, from Oatlands, is a French polisher, which his brief described as a "quite specialised" trade.

He has previous convictions but the last was in 2016.

Sheriff Allan Mckay said: "This is a shame that this has come up as you have been out of trouble for four or five years."

McCaughey was put on a tag keeping him at home for 54 days between the hours of 9pm and 6am.
