A DISQUALIFIED driver who crashed her car got out of it with no shoes on before falling to the ground.

Rena Lamb, 64, was on Hollybrook Street in Glasgow’s Southside when she was seen driving her vehicle back and forwards.

As she attempted to make off on July 10 this year, she collided with another car belonging to someone who witnessed the incident.

Lamb then drove forward and hit a fence on the other side of the street causing her car to come to a stop.

The nearby witness approached the car and removed Lamb’s keys from the ignition to prevent her from driving again.

She appeared in court after previously pleading guilty to driving with no MOT, insurance and whilst disqualified. She was also charged with driving without due care and attention and causing her car to lose control.

The prosecutor explained: “Lamb exited the vehicle. She was not wearing any shoes and was staggering on the roadway. She caused traffic on the road to avoid hitting her.

“She approached the witness attempting to get her keys, however, staggered and fell. Police arrived and carried out checks.

“It was discovered she was a disqualified driver; she had no insurance and the MOT had expired.

"The accused was arrested and conveyed to Cathcart police office.”

The court heard that Lamb’s disqualification period had passed, however, she hadn’t resat the driving test.

Her lawyer said: “At the time of the incident, she had recently asked for help for her mental health problems. The week prior to the incident her dosage of medication was upped, and it did not agree with her.

“She has taken full responsibility and pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity. She has no outstanding matters. She does have previous convictions. She is retired but worked for the local authority for around 35 years.”

Sheriff Shona Gilroy fined Lamb £540.

She was disqualified from driving for one year.
