TWO suspects are to stand trial charged with trying to kill a man and assaulting another.

George McFarlane, 38, and Robert McFarlane, 36, are said to have carried out the alleged crimes on August 30 2020 in Glasgow's Tollcross.

It is claimed they attempted to murder Scott Stewart by repeatedly striking him on the body with a knife.

A separate charge alleges the pair also assaulted Scott Stewart junior by attempting to hit him with a blade and metal pole having engaged in a fight with him.

George McFarlane alone faces a number of further accusations said to have occurred on the same date and also in Tollcross.

This includes claims he threatened to hit a woman with a pole and brandished a knife at a 16 year-old girl.

The indictment alleges he brandished an "unidentified weapon" at another woman as well as behaving in a disorderly manner including at Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Both McFarlanes face a charge together of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner.

Lawyers Graeme Brown and Kevin Cassidy pleaded not guilty on their behalf during a short hearing at the High Court in Glasgow last week.

Lord Matthews set a trial due to begin on April 25 next year.
