TRIBUTES have been paid to Glasgow student Timothy Chiwaula after his body was found in the city on Friday.

The 23-year-old was formally identified after officers discovered the body of a man in the water next to Glasgow Green at around 4am on October 22.

Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) Principal, Jeffrey Sharkey described Timothy as a young man of "warmth and great potential".

He said: "We're absolutely devastated to hear of Tim's death and our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and all those who knew and loved him.

"Within our community, Tim was known as a young man of warmth and great potential. He will be missed very much.

"This is a close-knit community and our focus now is ensuring our students and staff are supported as we all come to terms with this terrible news."

Glasgow Saints F.C. said the loss of Timothy left the club "lost for words".

A statement from the team's Sporting Director, Kyle Burgess reads: "All at Glasgow Saints F.C. are devastated to hear the tragic news of the passing of our dear friend & player, Timothy "Timo" Chiwaula.

"Timo was one of the warmest, funniest & most charismatic people to grace our club & the impact of this loss leaves us lost for words.

"Hugely popular with all at the club, both on and off the field, Timo embodied everything this club stands for, positivity, a welcoming and accepting attitude to everyone he met and an expression of the beautiful game which was a joy to behold.

"Without a doubt, one of the greatest players we've seen in our gold shirt. Our thoughts are with those closest to him and as a club we will reach out and support them in any way we can. Details will be shared soon for those who wish to contribute.

"Timo's memory will live on forever and will be at the heart of all we do as a club; we only wish he knew how loved he was."

Timothy was last seen on Old Shettleston Road in the city's East End at around 8.45pm on Monday, October 11.

Police confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 4am on Friday, October 22, 2021, police were called after the body of a man was discovered in the water next to Glasgow Green.

"The deceased has been formally identified as Timothy Chiwaula (23) who had been reported missing from the Glasgow area. His family are aware.

"There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

"The media and members of the public are thanked for their support during our investigation."
