A LOCAL councillor has issued a call to environment campaigner Greta Thunberg to visit the Southside of Glasgow.

Soryia Siddique has issued a Twitter invite to the Swedish climate champion to make time during COP26 to come to Govanhill.

The Labour councillor said the teenager would "inspire generations to come."

And she added that locals in the area deserve "a clean and green place to live".

She wrote on social media: "Would be delighted if you could visit Govanhill - one of the most diverse areas in Scotland facing stark inequality.

"The communities of #Govanhill deserve a clean & green area.

"Your presence would be inspirational for the current & generations to come."

We're still waiting for Greta to respond... but we're sure the community would give her a warm welcome.

Greta has confirmed she will be in the city on November 5 to join the huge youth climate strike taking place.

And she tweeted in support of the workers going out on strike in the city during the UN summit.
