Prosecutor Shona Howie said: "Smith punched Mr Haggerty once causing him to fall back and hit the floor."

Mr Haggerty realised he suffered an injury and was taken to hospital where he received stiches to the cut on his head.

Miss Howie added: "Police went back and reviewed CCTV and they noticed that Smith seemed to be holding his hand as if he injured himself after he threw the punch.

"Officers checked hospital records and found that he attended with an injury to his hand. A cast was put on.

"Officers attended his house to speak to his partner and Smith turned himself later on that day.

"He was in a cast and a sling."
